VSC FAQ <3

VSC

Frequently, and extremely niche, VSC 2025 questions answered here!

When is the VSC?

Training starts 25th August 2025.
Comp day is Saturday October 4th 2025.
You’ll wanna mark that whole day off your calendar.

How long does the comp take?

A few hours, depending.
Expect to be in the gym 8am - mid arvo.
We all hang around for all the events to cheer on our friends!
There’s an afterparty planned too… more on that soon 🍻

Who can participate?

Any current member of Valkyrie Gym is welcome to participate.
A couple of things to keep in mind:

  • your program will require you to attend the gym 3-4 x per week for 6 weeks (25/8-4/10)

  • if you’ve only been training with us for a few weeks, we can still tailor your program to suit your current education level and benchmarks!

  • challenge day will be Saturday of the October long weekend; 4/10/25. It would be ideal if you can make it on the day, but lots of members have seen great success with VSC training without the challenge day itself.

  • if you are on a casual pass or have planned time away during the training period, please contact us to see if the VSC is right for you.

When do I get my t-shirt? Are they cool?

When you check in for the event on the day you’ll get your tee. And of course they’re cool, what would you expect?

Why are there workshops beforehand?

Check out the “Events” section of your ZenPlanner app to view all the upcoming workshops - you’re going to want to get to:

  • VSC Info Night

  • 1 of the 2 iterations of: Deadlifts

  • 1 of the 2 iterations of: Pull-ups & snatches

  • VSV How to: Read your program

^^^ Find the dates in ZP and book in now.

These workshops will give you the best leg up to the challenge possible. Deepen your understanding of the main movements, answer any questions you have about following your program and getting the most out of your training and testing.

How many events are there on the day?

There are 3 events:

  • deadlift

  • pull-up, chin-up  or flexed-arm hang

  • 5 minute snatch

….. maybe a cheeky special event.

I'm freaking out cause I can’t do a pull up??

It’s cool, we all couldn’t do a pull up at some point.
We have 6+ weeks of training to see where we get to.
On challenge day, we’re catering for all strength levels:

  • passive hang

  • flexed arm hang

  • chin-up max rep

  • pull-up max rep

The movement you choose will determine which division you take part in prior to starting your program.

So what’s the go with the divisions?

For the first second time in the history of the whole world ever,
we aren’t categorising attendants by binary genders AND we won’t running our challenge day as a traditional competition.

This means that the “divisions” will function as more a guide to help you decide which variations of the movements and bell sizes you’ll be using during the training and the challenge day itself.

We have made this decision based on our community values.
If this raises more questions for you, please get in touch, we’d love to chat!

At the end of the day, we are seeking the best from each individual.
It’s cheesy, but everyone is a winner in our books.

What division should I go for?

Once you’ve bought your ticket, theres a 2 week period where you’ll practice your 3 movements, and your coach will be writing your program. During this time, your coach will work with you to figure out which division will be the best fit.
This can, and often does, change on the day. No sweat!

Can I still train with my friends in class?

Heck yeah!
We’ve aligned your personal programming with our class programming so everyone is doing similar stuff.

You can attend class times as usual, wielding your secret weapon (your very own program) so you know exactly what movements, how many of them and at what weight.

You may find that your program exceeds the 45 minute time slot for class though, so make sure to leave plenty of time in your schedule to get your workout done.

What happens if I can’t perform an event or can’t do the exercise properly?

Look, we are all just here to do our best.
Let’s work with what we’ve got.
You don’t have to be a competitive athlete to do this thing.
We have plenty of options on the day to make sure everyone is included and feels like they can rise to the occasion to be the very best version on themselves!

When do we get our personalised, extremely cool programs?

Soon after signing up.
Our team will make sure you’re clued up!

Before the programming begins, you will be asked a few questions about where your movements are at so far.
This is why testing week before the program starts is so important!
More on all this later.

Why should I bother with this?

There are so many reasons why this style of training and even the challenge day itself can be good for you.
Commitment, self improvement, focus and community engagement are just some.
