Brett’s VSC Story

VSC

Somehow, someway…

we’ve been able to grow what is now called the VSC into something pretty special.

And hearing stories like Brett’s highlight why we do what we do.

If you don’t know Brett, well he’s a pretty cool guy.

He’s kind, had a great sense of humour and even surfs too!

Read on for his VSC Story…

What were the obstacles or barriers that would have prevented you from signing up to VSC before?

The big thing in the way was my nervousness and anticipation about the event. I also felt that I wasn’t ready for such a big challenge.

What did you find as a result of attending The VSC?

It turns out that the coaching team was right, and I was up to it and loved the whole experience, from when the training started to the day of VSC

I found that I could handle the challenges of The VSC, from the first few weeks of training right up until the “big day”. I loved the whole experience!

What was your most favourite part about the VSC?

The programming itself was awesome and tracking my progress over the weeks really helped me achieve more than I’d ever hope for.

During the training, I was able to catch Hugo for some 1-on-1 coaching with my kettlebell snatch. We worked on my breathing a lot and that became a game changer anytime I was working with the bells after.

And the results speak for themselves…on challenge day I achieved things I never thought possible!

  • I broke though and got my first chin-up

  • I managed to push and take 104 snatches for the 5 minutes

  • And I deadlifted more than my bodyweight!

When I look back to when I first started training at Valkyrie, I wouldn’t have thought any of those things would be possible for me…

What other aspects of The VSC did you enjoy?

I was really taken back on the day of the challenge on how our gym community came together for such a special day, regardless of ability, age or gender. Never have I ever experienced anything remotely like this in any other gym space (and I been around for a while…)

It still gives me the tingles when I think back to how supported I felt on that day…

During the training and the VSC day, I learned a something about myself too.

I leant how to be stay calm when I felt overwhelmed and this was one the driving factors that helped me perform so well in the Snatch Event.

But above all, I came out the other side of The VSC with a real sense of accomplishment. I was stronger, fitter and healthier.

Would you recommend the VSC at Valkyrie Gym? If so, why?

Fuck yes.

Because of all of the above reasons!

Is there anything you’d like to add?

Don’t. Ever. Change.

You have created something special and I’ll back for next year!

Also, one image is stuck in my head of Camilla just doing the active hang for what seemed to be forever and she was so chilled about it, looked like she went to sleep up there!!
