Quality vs. Quantity

Have you ever been “speed dating”?

For me, it’s never been something that appeals to me.

It sits in the same space in my brain that prefers homemade lasagne over the microwave meal I’ve got in the fridge for lunch today and why I prefer to spend lots of my time with a handful of high-value of lifts over what’s currently trending on social media.

It’s a classic example of quality over quantity and if you train with me at Valkyrie, it’s obvious that it’s the status quo around here.

It’s so ingrained in what we do here that I was taken back to see that other gyms like ours were only offering “15 minute” initial consults for new members.

The world is so focused on making things faster, easier and more efficient. On one hand, it’s amazing.

My burger gets made faster and my motorcycle gets fixed faster, however on the other hand, we lose out on some of the authenticity of life.

This a big driver of why we spend upwards of an hour with newcomers to the gym.

We get the time to unpack all the BS that comes with starting at a new gym as well as identify why they’re here in the first place (rather than out in the gym kicking ass).

Often there’s a multitude of reasons and barriers that get in the way and I’m sure if you’re either at the start of journey or 15 years in like myself you’d appreciate that lifting weights isn’t easy.

When we’re at our best, this is the challenge that drives us. When we’re out of sorts, it can feel like moving mountains.

Setting our intentions at very start helps us find our feet when things get away from us and reminds us to go for it when we’re ready to do so.

Since prioritising quality time with newcomers, the longevity of new members and the success they achieve on the floor has skyrocketed.

If you’re already kicking around at the Valkyrie and have already gone through this process, it might not be a bad idea to check back in with us and refocus.

I’m here to help you get the most out of your training here at Valkyrie and if this email has ignited your fire then reach out.

Alternatively, If you’re not apart of gym community or know someone who’d benefit from everything I’ve mentioned above, let’s chat.
