What a ‘World Champs’ Training Looks Like

I was chatting to one of my online students the other day about her kettlebell presses and snatches (that improving like crazy).

She’s an absolute weapon with a rich background in MMA and kickboxing and soon she’ll be competing in the World’s BJJ comp in Las Vegas this year.

She’s stoked but I’m not terribly surprised on how well she’s progressing.

Here’s what her training looks like:

  • 3-4 hard “rolls” on the mats

  • 1-2 technical session with her coach

  • + she’s flat out training her own students on the gym floor

She’s busy as hell and we didn’t have much to play with to work in her own strength practice.

On paper, it’s a toughie to program for but I see this kind of “time split” with everyday people all the time…

The solution?

A low volume, minimalist strength program consisting of two movements; The Press & The Snatch.

The workouts themselves are quick and effective.

Get in, do your reps, get out and move on kind of thing.

There’s no filler, because in the strength game, more is often not better.

And this style of training is perfectly complimenting her martial arts practice (without chewing up valuable time on the mats).

I’m very much looking forward to hearing all the stories on (and off) the mat from Las Vegas after all these strength gains!

Here’s the interesting thing, you personally might not be looking to become a world champ…

But this sort of minimalist style of training can pair beautifully with any other full-time commitment.

Parents, uni students, small business owners…you name it.

There’s a version of this that’ll probably get you the results you’re after.

At our gym, this style of training is woven in through our programming, year round.

It allows our members to go from strength to strength without taking too much time away from the important things.

And man, that’s just swell isn’t it?

We’re actually starting a new program block for this winter next week.

And it’s just like all my other programming (of the last few years) it’s gonna deliver the goods.
